Yoga Classes (60 minutes)
I'VE BEEN PRACTICING YOGA WITH AVALON FOR OVER 8 YEARS. AN AMAZING SPIRITUAL AND PHYSICAL EXPERIENCE. LIFE CHANGING!
- JULIE SKALLER
I tell my students that a Hatha yoga practice (which is what most yoga classes are these days, including mine) is basically composed of 3 parts:
|
I teach mostly to who is in the class and type of class it is. I always start out with a brief centering and grounding exercise. We then warm up the body with movements and then move into specific postures that complement each other. I try to cover the whole body in most classes. I will always include forward bends, a gentle back bend, side bending, twists and a balancing pose. I’m constantly giving instruction on the breathing and trying to bring my students into greater awareness. Sometimes we end up joking and laughing throughout the class and there are great benefits when classes go this way too. I like to talk about the benefits of the postures and the esoteric meanings. Sometimes we do more breath work than at other times - it depends on the class and on the vibes that I am receiving from the group. I try to give as much hands on assist to everyone as possible (with permission of course). With years of teaching and being an empath, it is easy for me to know how you are feeling and what is the best next move. I no longer teach from a script. I teach from intuition and what your higher self is communicating to my higher self. Crazy? Possibly, but that's the way it's been working. Let's not forget ending with "Savasana" - a relaxation at the end of practice so the body can assimilate all that it did in the past hour.
One goal is to for you to walk away with a sense of growth and empowerment in some way shape or form - either you are physically feeling better, mentally feeling better or emotionally feeling better. (However, I do believe that all of those go hand in hand.) I’d also like you to walk away feeling inspired - It doesn’t matter what you become inspired about, perhaps it's something spiritual or a new way you can move your body or an insight that came to you during practice. I’d be really happy if you become inspired about living life more peacefully and fully.
You don’t need to bring anything but if you have a mat feel free to bring it. Dress comfortably (fancy yoga clothes are not required) and don’t eat a huge meal right before class. Please mind your personal hygiene and please do not wear any perfumes to classes or privates.
